Read Up On Some Cabo Frio History.
The course of Cabo Frio history is an interesting one, indeed. Humans first inhabited this area more than six thousand years ago when a close-knit group of nomads came by sea in nothing but hand-made canoes and boats. During this time the primary mode of operation among the people was hunting and gathering for their barest subsistence. Over time, however, the inhabitants developed crude technology to assist them in their goals.
Archeological records suggest that primitive tools for catching, cleaning, and serving fish evolved during these early formative years. This fact underscores the importance of fish to Cabo Frio, both then and now.
As this technology took hold and progressed, the economy of Cabo Frio transitioned from primitive barter systems to more complex transactions, specializing in fishing, especially. Shellfish were always the most popular and plentiful fish to be caught and eaten in Cabo Frio, a fact that remains true today.
One interesting fact of history Cabo Frio is the series of wars that plagued the region during the 1500’s. After Columbus discovered the new world in 1492, Cabo Frio fell under Portuguese control. This led to a number of brutal and bloody conflicts over whether the locals or the Portuguese king should have authority in this new area. For a brief time, the French also tried to stake their claim to this area. In the end, Cabo Frio became an independent city as part of the Brazilian state of Rio De Janeiro.
Catholicism had much to do with Cabo Frio history, as well. Portuguese missionaries spread all throughout Mexico and Brazil in the 1500’s, converting throngs of natives to Christianity and spreading the word of God. This helped to cement Cabo Frio’s status as a catholic nation very early on, a distinction that remains with the city today.
In 1660, Cabo Frio began to take more and more steps to becoming urbanized. This was first evidenced by the increase in settlers during this time that needed homes built for them to stay in. By the early 1700’s, Cabo Frio had gone from a small colony to a booming city with a growing population and a tourism industry.
As any of the locals will tell you, Cabo Frio history is long and very complex. There were many ways, economic circumstances, and political shifts that led it to its current state. Today, despite all the pulls and gyrations of history, Cabo Frio is a thriving tourist city in Rio, just waiting for your visit!
